Batanes State College (BSC) in partnership with Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), provided a training on native pig farming on November 28, 2025, at the Mahatao Gymnasium.
This activity is part of the DOST-PCAARRD funded project entitled: “Establishment of Batanes Native Pig Breeding Herd”, in collaboration with University of the Philippines – Los Baños. The said training was participated by the Diura pigraisers, Municipal Agriculturists, BSC Agriculture Faculty Members, and students.
The College President Dr. Djovi R. Durante, duly represented by College VP Dr. Angelita H. Vargas, shared her message for the participants. Municipal Mayor of LGU- Mahatao, Hon. Jeronimo T. Carba, highlighted the importance of this training for Batanes’ food security. For the lecture proper, the esteemed lecturers were: Dr. Jane S. Castillo, Project Staff; Mr. Romel A. Raterta, Jr., Project Leader; and Mr. Warlito M. Tomas, Jr. Project Staff.
