The Batanes State College, through Pres. Dr. Alfonso R.Simon, expresses its support to the conduct of Flexible Learning during this pandemic, as espoused by the CHED and its Chairman, Dr. Prospero “Popoy” De Vera.
Here is the message of our President.
“While the province of Batanes has been generally spared from the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, the effects of the nationwide implementation of strict protocols has basically short-circuited the entire educational landscape of the Batanes State College (BSC). These changes in the educational system made an immense impact to this small island SUC in the farthest north of the country.
For one, Flexible Learning (FL) ” was a relatively unfamiliar term to most of our faculty and students in the College prior to the pandemic. However, in the early part of the year 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic started to wreck havoc worldwide, it became apparent that Flexible Learning was the best option for the College to move forward and ensure continuity of learning.
We may have had the options to suspend the operations of the College; watch how educational landscape of the world react; wait until the virus comes to an end; and resume the traditional face-to-face classes. however, we chose the tougher yet ultimately the better direction for our students. We chose to take on the challenge to innovate, to transform, and to ensure that learning continues, in whatever means, in whatever form, and whatever it takes. We closed, we opened, we did remarkably well.
While we conclude that for the majority of our students, face-to-face modality may not be completely replaced by any other modes of teaching, given the challenge that comes with it and given the current conditions in the country and in the world today, Flexible Learning is our best bet to move forward.
The whole academic populace of Batanes State College (BSC) therefore throws its full support to the Flexible Learning Modality, introduced by CHED and adopted by the College, as an effective and practical new normal learning modality during these strange, challenging and difficult times”
