The Batanes State College, led by College President Dr. Djovi Regala Durante, held a productive exploratory meeting with the UNESCO-Philippine National Commission led by Secretary General Dr. Ivan Anthony Henares on 11 April 2023, at the Iquame Room.

The meeting discussed the important role of BSC researchers in the preparation and completion of the World Heritage dossier of Batanes, leading to the province’s World Heritage inscription. Dr. Durante expressed his full commitment to this initiative, eager to collaborate with the Province and UNESCO to ensure Batanes’s rich culture and heritage are recognized and protected.

Dr. Ferdinand Bulusan, the Director for Instruction, also presented a proposal for the establishment of a functional Ivatan Lifelong Training and Research Center. According to him, the center’s mission is to focus on Ivatan-related studies, promoting a continued interest in and research into the historic and cultural heritage of the province.

The Batanes State College remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting these important initiatives and looks forward to working with UNESCO towards the inscription of Batanes on the World Heritage list
