The Batanes State College (BSC) recently achieved an impressive Energy Audit Rating of 95.9 percent, equivalent to a Grade A, 5-star rating, from the Department of Energy (DOE). This rating resulted from the combined efforts of BSC faculty, staff, and students, who worked together to comply with the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP).

The GEMP is a nationwide initiative that aims to improve energy efficiency and reduce monthly electricity and fuel consumption. The Inter-Agency Energy Efficiency and Conservation Committee (IAEECC) oversees the GEMP, requiring all Government Entities (GEs) to comply with the program under IAEECC Resolution No. 1, s. 2020.

As a result of BSC’s high rating, DOE representatives were impressed not only with the College’s compliance with the program but also recognized it by inviting BSC to participate in the prestigious Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards. This invitation is a clear testament to BSC’s commitment to energy efficiency and conservation, as well as the thoroughness with which the necessary documents were completed and the findings of the previous audit were addressed.

BSC President Djovi Regala Durante spoke at length about the significance of this accomplishment, stating that it reflects the College’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
