Batanes State College (BSC) celebrated the 2026 National Women’s Month on March 23, 2026, at the BSC Amphitheater.
Guided by the sub-theme, “Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas,” the celebration called on women to embrace the spirit of the pre-colonial Babaylan embodying wisdom, compassion, and community leadership. A highlight of the program was the recognition of outstanding BSC women leaders, who were awarded Certificates of Commendation for their invaluable contributions to the institution. Their dedication continues to inspire excellence and foster a culture of empowerment and inclusivity.
Setting the tone for the event, Asst. Prof. Daryl Alva B. Duguran, Director of Internationalization and External Linkages, emphasized that equality is a shared responsibility. She called on everyone to create spaces where every voice is heard, every potential is nurtured, and no one is left behind.
In the inspirational message of College President Dr. Djovi Regala Durante, delivered by College Vice President Dr. Angelita H. Vargas, BSC women were praised for their vital role in shaping a more inclusive and empowering institution. She shared the acronym “WOMAN”—Wisdom, Opportunity Creation, Mentorship, Action-Oriented Leadership, and Networking—capturing the essence of the leadership they embody.
Adding depth to the program, Dr. Michel A. Cabrera, Director for Instruction, shared key insights on Digital Literacy, while Hon. Helga Anne Treasure L. Ayuyang, Presiding Judge of MTC-Itbayat, discussed Gender-Responsive Laws, Programs, and Services which equipped participants with essential knowledge for navigating today’s both digital and social landscape.
In her closing remarks, Ms. Zoe Dympna Cartaño, GAD Focal Person, reflected on the event as a celebration of unity, resilience, and empowerment. She extended her heartfelt appreciation to all who contributed and took part in the success of the program.
As the Women’s Month draws to a close, WE (Women and Everyone) will stand united in advancing BSC’s commitment to a more inclusive and gender-responsive environment, where everyone feels safe, empowered, and valued.
