Batanes State College (BSC) President, Dr. Djovi R. Durante, welcomed Hon. Felipe C. R. Ding, Political Division Deputy Director, and Hon. Dustin T. S. Yang, Deputy Representative, representatives from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines, on February 25, 2026.

The event centered on strengthening ties and exploring collaborative initiatives between BSC and TECO, particularly in the areas of higher education and agricultural development.

Among the exciting prospects discussed was the provision of scholarship opportunities for BSC faculty members who wish to pursue Doctor of Philosophy in Agriculture degree in Taiwan University.

In addition, potential student internship and exchange programs were explored, opening valuable avenues for academic enrichment, research exposure, and cross-cultural learning experiences for both faculty and students.

Another significant discussion was on the proposed pilot production of garlic in Batanes using the Taiwanese garlic variety. This initiative will study the adaptability of the variety to the province’s soil and climatic conditions. Beyond enhancing agricultural practices, the proposed research aims to strengthen local garlic production and contribute to sustainable agricultural development in the province.

BSC remains steadfast in forging meaningful partnerships that advance instruction, research, and community development. Through strategic collaborations, the College continues to create opportunities for growth, innovation, and progress that benefit not only the institution but the entire Ivatan community.
