Batanes State College (BSC), through the Office of Research and Development, Extension and Training (RDET), successfully conducted the 2025 Agency In-House Review of Proposals, ongoing, and completed Research and Extension Papers on December 10, 2025, via Zoom conference.
With the theme “Innovating for Tomorrow: Advancing Research and Extension for Sustainable Future and Inclusive Communities”. The activity highlighted the diverse research and extension initiatives of BSC Faculty members and staff, reflecting the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and community development aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The College Vice President, Dr. Angelita H. Vargas, in her Opening Remarks emphasized the importance of research and extension in strengthening the institution’s impact and response to community needs.
Delivering the inspirational message, College President and Chair of the Board of Judges, Dr. Djovi R. Durante, commended the presenters for their courage in sharing their scholarly works. He emphasized that the in-house review serves as a venue for improvement, preparing papers for national and international presentations and ensuring that research outputs translate into meaningful community development initiatives that contribute to the attainment of the SDGs.
The College R&D Coordinator, Dr. Jane S. Castillo, presented the distinguished Panel of Judges, comprising Dr. Durante as Chairperson; Dr. Leo Andrew B. Biclar, VP for Research, Development and Extension of Capiz State University; and Dr. Jeson N. Geroche, Director of Extension Services of Davao De Oro State College, as members.
A total of fourteen (14) papers were evaluated, and the Best Paper Award is awarded to ICT department for the paper entitled: “Uyugan Needs Assessment (UNA): Bridging Digital Gaps Through a Strategic Extension Program”, authored by Ms. Navvab C. Patricio, Dr. Michel A. Cabrera, and Mr. Julian Matthew G. Agudo.
To formally close, RDET Director Mr. Leobert Banzali expressed his gratitude to the panel of judges, presenters, and technical team for their invaluable contributions, noting that the in-house review continues to strengthen BSC’s Research and extension culture and its service to Ivatan Communities.
