BASCO, BATANES – Batanes State College held its first-ever Presidential Investiture today at the BSC Amphitheater, May 5, 2023, marking the official appointment of the fourth president of the college. The historic event was a solemn academic ceremony for the whole college, celebrating not only the new president’s leadership but also his commitment to the institution.
Dr. Durante, joined by his family and regional directors, was officially awarded the academic regalia, hood, cap, and medallion, symbolizing the authority and power vested upon him among the BSC administrations and faculty. He also took oath into the office of the college president led by Commissioner Marita R. Canapi.
In his message, the president presented his strategic plan where he emphasized the five key results for higher education in the future. He highlighted, “An optimized higher education institution recognized for its excellence in transforming lives.”
Prior to the celebration, a solemn mass was held at the Cathedral, followed by a grand procession of distinguished individuals at the BSC Amphitheater. Among them were Dr. Aleth Mamauag and Dr. Alfonso “Cholo” Simon, former presidents of the college, Hon. Marilou Cayco, Governor of Batanes, Bishop Danilo “Danny” Ulep, and regional directors Atty. Marco Cicero F. Domingo from CHED, Hon. Virginia G. Bilgera from DOST, Hon. Dionisio C. Ledres Jr. from NEDA, Faculty President Mr. William Pol M. Maggay, SSC President Hon. Dominic Vargas, Alumni President Robert Bidayan, and Dr. Durante’s family and relatives.
Comm. Marita R. Canapi, Chairlady of BOT and CHED Commissioner stated, “I am in deep honor and privilege to express my warm congratulations to you. We are hopeful of your leadership. Congratulations! Soar High and make BSC a higher institution in the future”. “I have observed him to be a leader of commitment dedication, and hard work since his appointment.”
After Comm. Canapi, Gov. Cayco also expressed her message to Dr. Durante and everyone in the hall. “I am more than honored to be part of this momentous event of this prestigious college. I offer my cordial salute and appreciation!”
Through an audio-visual presentation, Congressman Ciriaco Gato expressed his message and felicitations and said: “Dr. Durante has shown his competence, dedication even in the most challenging times. As he continues to lead the BSC, I am confident that he will take the institution to greater heights of service and academic excellence. I am particularly excited to see the innovations to create more opportunities.” #
