Hon. Ciriaco B. Gato Jr., the representative of the lone congressional district of Batanes attended a consultative meeting with the Batanes State College (BSC) key officials at the Institutional Quality Assurance Monitoring and Evaluation (IQuaME) Room, October 10.

Congressman Gato, who initially extended congratulatory greetings to the newly elected college president, Dr. Djovi Durante, inquired about the help his office can extend to further provide continuing support to the higher education services of BSC.

With Ms. Dhea Addatu, Hon. Gato vowed the support of his office to the continuing progress of BSC in advancing its instruction and research initiatives for the people of Batanes.

The team exhaustively discussed the following matters, to wit:
1. Report on the university status of BSC
2. Status of the construction of the BSC Amphitheatre
3. Proposed new program offerings
4. Student scholarship program
5. Right of way of the BSC Agriculture Building
6. Other social and education issues

Congressman Gato, who filed a bill to convert BSC into a state university, expressed his optimism about the continuing growth of BSC as the only state-owned higher education institution in the province.

Dr. Gato is also a member of the BSC Board of Trustees representing Hon. Mark O. Go, Chairperson- Committee on Higher and Technical Education of the House of Representatives.
