ARCHITECT DELMA M. Abad of the Batanes State College (BSC) has declared an 80% to 85% completion rate of the PhP 29M three-storey library cum hostel project, which started last year.
Abad said that infrastructure project is sourced from the 2016 General Appropriations Act (GAA) fund of the College under capital outlay.
She revealed that the completion is delayed because of the series of inclement weather conditions last year, especially during the wrath of typhoon “Ferdie” in September.
“The contractor of the project, E.M Cuerpo, requested for an extension from the College president, Dr. Edwin F. Macaballug, who in turn gave an ultimatum of 30 days extension, thus, moving the targeted March schedule to the end of April this year,” the lady architect added.
The building, having a 27.1 m x 10 m floor area, is erected in place of the demolished industrial technology facility adjacent to the administration building.
It is composed of a library on the ground floor and a laboratory for the BS Tourism and BS HRM students on the 2nd floor.
On the other hand, the 3rd floor is designed as a seven-room hostel that will be open for the tourism industry as an income generating project of the College. However, the college’s personal guests will remain as the top priority.
Moreover, the rooftop of the building is designed to have a garden serving as a recreational spot for guests. It is also agreed on the design that natural colors will be used for the building such as white and beige.
